A new treatment process that will remove glass and metal from waste products is to be introduced at Dundee's Baldovie energy from waste plant. The Evening Telegraph reports that plant operators Dundee Energy Recycling Limited (DERL) said that the new system will improve the efficiency of the plant's boilers while also increasing the amount of metal and glass products that are recycled.

DERL already recovers some metals from the waste stream with the use of magnets, but the new process will go much further by separating out all metals and glass prior to the waste reaching the plant's two electricity generating boilers. The new system will also ensure consistency in fuel being sent to the boilers and the introduction of new shredders will improve the quality of the material to be incinerated.
