Jaguar Cars has teamed up with The Clean Merseyside Centre - the market development organisation for recyclable materials on Merseyside - to improve their environmental performance, through waste minimisation.
Jaguar will be providing waste plastic from their production line at Halewood, Merseyside for recycling. The plastic will be reprocessed by Plastic Reclamation Ltd, St Helens and turned into high quality plastic products such as street furniture, signage, bollards and fencing.

The new waste minimisation initiative will see plastic waste, previously binned and sent to landfill, being recycled as a commercial product.
Thousands of protective plastic caps, used as packaging for car components, will now be recycled each week, providing a steady supply of recyclable material for local plastic reprocessor - Plastic Reclamation Ltd. An estimated 200 plastic caps are disposed of for each car produced at the Jaguar assembly plant. The colour-coded caps are used as packaging for components such as brake pipes and hoses. An estimated 3 tonnes of waste will be diverted from landfill for recycling each month as a result of the initiative.

Jaguar initially approached The Clean Merseyside Centre with a view to identifying a local recycler of plastic carrier bags, generated from the staff canteen.
This initial issue led to a closer investigation of Jaguar's wider waste generation, including the packaging of car components. Further measures are now underway to consider the recycling of plastic cups, cotton gloves, safety glasses and batteries.
