Curiosity (text):
Construction contractors and clients, waste management companies, planners and other interested parties are being invited to take part in the UK‘‘s largest ever construction waste measurement project. This Defra-funded project - being carried out by BRE - will measure waste in a consistent and systematic way, from a range of construction, refurbishment and demolition projects across the UK.

The data collected will enable the industry to understand the causes of waste and to predict waste arising from the new build, demolition and refurbishment sectors. Knowing the typical composition and quantity of waste being generated across these sectors will be a very powerful tool for setting targets for reduction and planning for reprocessing/recovery facilities.

The project team from BRE is looking for UK companies undertaking new build, demolition or refurbishment project to become involved - every effort will be made to keep the reporting they have to do to a minimum. The data generated will be used to provide reliable and accurate key performance indicators and benchmarks.

Involvement in the project can offer companies:

access to accurate data, performance indicators and benchmarks
an understanding of their waste and possible improvements
a reporting system for waste management enhanced environmental credentials
help with ISO14001 or similar and environmental reporting
increased bid winning potential with ‘‘green‘‘ clients
Improved profitability by minimising waste on construction projects
